With the 1.26 billion population of Africa expected to quadruple in the next 90 years, and a growth rate in Sub-Saharan Africa of between 2.5 and 3% per annum, food security for this continent is critical.
Shumba Group works with scientists, farmers, educators and NGO’s to help farmers produce better harvests, keep healthy livestock, and protect their stored grain and cereal so that they can use it for a full 12 months.
Our rural outreach programmes see us visiting thousands of farmers every year and advising them on the best farming and grain protection methods.
We work with governments to train farmers in animal health, and instill the knowledge that prevention is better than cure. Through our involvement in national dipping schedules we provide dips for thousands of cattle for rural farmers to keep national herds healthy and strong in numbers.
With ever increasing populations, smaller areas of land are needed to provide ever increasing amounts of food for populations in a sustainable manner. At Shumba Group we develop crop chemicals that can be applied by hand for small scale farmers, and methods that can be used on large tracts of land in a cost-effective manner by commercial farmers.
Through constant contact with farmers and an understanding of their needs and changing environmental conditions we strive to improve food security in Africa.
